Emission reduction measures

I.Measures for energy conservation and emission reduction in maritime logistics

Gaseous emissions are managed and controlled in strict accordance with international conventions and regional requirements of each port. All operating vessels are equipped with pollution prevention equipment that meets international conventions and have obtained ISPP and IOPP certificates. In accordance with the latest requirements of IMO and local laws and regulations, pollution treatment equipment and emission management measures are continuously improved.

1. Establish and improve an environmental management system, take effective disposal measures for different types of pollutants, ensure that the discharge of various pollutants complies with international and local laws and regulations, and prevent environmental pollution incidents from occurring.

2. Continuously optimize the company's current routes, make full use of the marine hydrological and meteorological conditions during the ship's voyage, combine the performance characteristics of the ship and the requirements of the charterer, and on the premise of safe navigation of the ship, conduct real-time optimization of the ship's planned speed for the entire voyage to achieve minimum fuel consumption.

3. Upgrade ship fuel equipment, eliminate old ships, and ensure full and rational utilization of fuel. In 2023, 4 old container ships were sold and 12 new ships were delivered; the new ships 1800TEU and 2600TEU adopt seawater frequency conversion systems, and the hulls ,bows and propellers are optimized, and the high-efficiency twisted rudder is used. The 2600TEU ship also adopts energy-saving ducts to further reduce fuel consumption. The newly built 1,000TEU container ships are all environmentally friendly ships, with the characteristics of maximizing the ship's container capacity and reducing the daily fuel consumption of a single ship by more than 12%. At the same time, it can reach 40% of the energy consumption baseline standard of the ship's Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) phase 0 phase. above. Use low-sulfur oil to reduce gaseous pollutant emissions, improve ship shipping energy efficiency, reduce fuel usage, and reduce gaseous pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions from the source.

4. Use fuel additives to improve combustion conditions, increase combustion efficiency, and reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.

5. Use shaft generators to reduce fuel consumption. Currently, three ships are initially equipped with shaft power generation devices. It is expected that a shaft generator will save 0.8 tons of fuel a day and 144 tons of fuel a year.

6. From 2017 to 2023, the company's fuel consumption per unit of transportation capacity per 10,000 nautical miles has maintained a downward trend for five consecutive years.

II.Measures for energy conservation and emission reduction in land logistics

1. Conversion of existing equipment from oil to electricity: Transform the existing reach stacker that uses diesel as power to use electricity as power. One piece of equipment is expected to save about 90,000 liters of fuel per year. It is estimated that by 2030, 12.5% of the existing reach stackers will be converted from oil to electricity, and by 2040, all reach stackers will be converted from oil to electricity.

2. Newly purchased equipment: Promote forklifts that use clean energy such as electric energy or hydrogen energy. Starting from 2023, the company will no longer approve the purchase of new fuel equipment. New equipment will use oil-to-electricity or newly purchased electric energy equipment.

3. Promote the intelligent automated logistics base project: In 2022, we will invest US$32 million in the China Free Trade Pilot Zone (Qingdao) area to build a Shipping intelligent warehousing and logistics base. All mechanical equipment on site are powered by electricity, and the roof is covered with solar panels and equipped with energy recovery and intelligent energy dispatching devices. While generating electricity, the energy generated by the operation of the equipment is recovered at the same time. Fully automatic unmanned container loading and unloading equipment is used to realize container transshipment through remote control technology and intelligent system solutions. The project design has been demonstrated and recognized by terminal automation experts, and the operating efficiency is much higher than that of traditional loading and unloading equipment. The land delisting and various pre-approval procedures were completed in 2022, and the groundbreaking was officially launched in October 2023. The construction is expected to be completed in 2024.

4. Create a green supply chain: The intelligent transport vehicles independently developed by Haifeng Intelligent can reduce dependence on traditional fuels and reduce environmental pollution and carbon emissions. The power system of the smart transport vehicle adopts pure electric and hydrogen power clean energy technology, which has the advantages of zero emission, low noise and high efficiency, and promotes the development of the transportation industry in a green and low-carbon direction, contributing to environmental protection and sustainable development. Help the port industry achieve green and low-carbon breakthroughs. Intelligent transportation equipment has been provided to Qingdao Port Terminal and other suppliers.

5. Expand the use of information systems: SITC's integrated yard information system will be gradually launched in each phase of the Indonesian yard, which is the first overseas yard to go online. Compared with the original business system, while achieving the goal of independent and controllable systems, dynamic operation management of containers in the site is implemented to improve the efficiency of forklift central control management and the efficiency of container inspection in and out of the site;

III.Energy regeneration, waste utilization

Employees strive to maximize recycling, emission reduction, garbage classification and proper recycling in their daily work and life. Advocate green office and implement OA office and video conferencing systems to reduce office paper consumption; set up waste battery recycling devices on each floor of the company to properly dispose of waste batteries containing heavy metals; subsidiaries equipped with canteens will set up classified recycling bins to collect kitchen waste. The remaining garbage should be separated from other domestic waste. The company strongly advocates the garbage classification system, and each branch has formulated a garbage disposal system according to the local environmental protection requirements, clarified the responsible person, and equipped classified garbage containers. If perishable or harmful garbage is generated, it will be transported to the treatment station. Carry out unified treatment and implement sealed transportation during garbage transportation.

Establish the "Management Measures for the Treatment of Ship Sewage Oil and Water" to recycle and reuse harmless waste on land and at sea as much as possible to reduce the amount of waste produced. And collect oil residues, waste oil, and oily sewage and store them in wastewater treatment facilities like oil tanks, waste oil tanks and engine room sewage tanks, measures are taken to process and monitor emission data to avoid harm to marine life; other hazardous wastes such as used batteries and medical waste are stored in special storage barrels. After docking, all types of hazardous waste will be handed over to qualified third-party units to ensure that hazardous waste generated by ship operations is properly processed.

According to the different types of waste on land and at sea, corresponding management measures should be taken to reduce waste generation and continuously promote the reduction, harmlessness and resource treatment of waste.

IV.New energy exploration

SITC International signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Chinese Academy of Sciences Venture Capital Management Co., Ltd., a professional institution established by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Both parties agreed to explore and study the promotion and application of green methanol in shipping logistics, lead the formulation of technical standards for green methanol in this industry, further promote the industrialization of major green methanol technologies, create a green methanol industry ecology, develop a liquid sunshine economy, and provide benefits to countries around the world. Each region contributes to achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality strategies.
